Ray Behavior Consulting is a neuro-affirming behavioral therapy practice that is strict about its compassion first model. Ray Behavior consulting offers evidence based strategies including Applied Behavior Analysis to adolecents, teens and young adults. We teach life skills that support our client's goals and provide the skills to gain opportunities to live a purposeful and full life. Some of these skills include social skills, communication, executive functioning skills, daily living tasks like age appropriate chores and responsibilities, and the emotional regulation skills needed to do these tasks without falling into burnout.
Ray Behavior Consulting is neurodivergent-owned and operated, using evidence-based research and lived experience to meet clients where they are without judgement. Ray Behavior also operates differently than many other ABA clinics. Primarily, all services are delivered in a BCBA-only model, assuring that clients receive direct support from a masters level clinician. More on this below.
Neurodivergent people are unique and often have impressive skillsets and strategies. They think in unique and creative ways that others may not be able to. For this same reason, they also can have challenges with tasks or activities that others do not. Historically, society has been inflexible, and sometimes downright ableist, with their treatment of neurodivergent and disabled people. Ray Behavior supports a world that is accepting of everyone, and we also know that while the world gets to that place, neurodivergent people are living in the now. We believe neurodivergent youth and young adults deserve to have someone who will teach them how to learn in a classroom or community at their pace without needing to use a tantrum to communicate, teens deserve to have opportunities to make friends and test out their social skills without negative or isolating experiences, and adults deserve the opportunity to learn how to make their favorite meal with support that works with their learning style. Ray Behavior is here to provide this support in a low pressure and positive environment.
Ray Behavior's core values are respect and compassion. The world can be a difficult place to navigate. Our goal is for every client to feel heard and seen as we work together to support them in learning the skills necessary to navigate their world with confidence and create a life uniquely their own. Our practice is built upon principles that guide every session: we are neuro-affirming, recognizing and respecting neurological differences; we are trauma-assumed, meaning our approach is gentle and non-coercive; and we are client-led and assent-driven, ensuring the client's personal goals and ongoing consent drive our work. We demonstrate these values by always respecting a client's or family member's right to decline participation, immediately collaborating to find an activity or goal they are willing to engage in, and consistently checking for active assent from even our smallest learners. While Ray Behavior acknowledges the historical mistakes within the field of ABA, we also recognize that the underlying theories it uses and other similar evidence-based methodologies are effective tools for supporting behavior change, and we are dedicated to utilizing them with the utmost respect and compassion. Ultimately, we believe every person deserves the opportunity to effectively gain the skills they wish to have to reach their goals.
